Prayer & Chanting Name of God

Significance of chanting the God's name has been propounded in Vedic, early and late medieval ages by various scriptures, texts, documentaries, and various saintly figures from all over the world.  Every religion stressed the importance prayer and chanting name has its own importance.  There are countless references signifying the importance of chanting God's holy name in Indian history.

Ramcharitmanas, Bhagavata Purana and other holy scriptures glorify the significance of chanting Name of God, and consider it as the easiest and most effective practice for liberation in Kaliyuga.

In Ramcharitmanas, Goswami Tuslidas says:

कलियुग केवल नाम अधारा, सुमिर-सुमिर नर उतरहिं पारा॥

He further adds:

– Goswami Tulsidas

Meaning:  "The Name repeated either with good or evil intentions, willingly or unwillingly, in an angry mood or even while yawning, diffuses joy in all the ten directions.  Remembering that Name, Rama, and bowing my head to the Lord of Raghus, I proceed to recount the virtues of Shri Rama."

In "Bhagavad Gita" also Lord Krishna is saying to Arjuna:

सततं कीर्तयन्तो मां यतन्तश्च दृढव्रताः।

नमस्यन्तश्च मां भक्त्या नित्ययुक्ता उपासते।।9.14।।

Satatam kirtayanto mam yatantas-cha-drdha-vratah

Namasyantas cha mam bhaktya nitya-yukta upasate

– (Bhagwat Gita: Chapter Nine:  Verse 14)

"Sri Krishna said to Arjuna: Always chanting My glories, endeavouring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion."
